Splendid Beats Music and Thoughts by Crispy / Leave Trace

I’m back from an exhausting weekend at Esthetic Evolution 2012, in the epic Twin Springs, ID. I had a blast with the Monster Planet gang, and I do believe we brought something truly unique to the festival. People either got it and loved it, or just didn’t know what to make of us. Many thanks to the EE staff for giving us the opportunity — and our own stage for the entire fest — to do what we do best – melt faces and charm snakes.

Here are a few photos I took. Somehow I managed to make it look like there was no one there, but’s that far from reality. It was jammed with 1000+ shiny, happy people.

Do you know about Monster Planet, a monthly evening of bad movies and improvised electronica? We have multitrack recorded every moment of every show for the past 2 years, in order to capture those moments of sonic synchronisity when the 5 unrehearsed musicians on stage all lock into the same vibe and something truly wonderful flows from the speakers. “Monster Planet — Year One” is a collection of some of our favorite moments from the first 12 shows.

I can’t help but think back to the heyday of The Orb and Future Sound of London when I listen to this stuff, so if that breed of amorphous, psychedelic ambiance is your thing, you should love what we’ve been cooking up at Monster Planet.

You know about Monster Planet, right? It’s where we take over a bar with 5 musicians, terrible B-movie montages, and improvise the rest from 9pm-1am.

Tune in tonight, Monday, January 9, 9pm-1am PST, as we attempt to live stream the Monster Planet insanity for your delight and bewilderment. Expect technical glitches (from space!) as we work out the bugs (from beyond time!), along with our regular cast of weird, strange, sick and twisted. Tonight’s auditory experience will be provided by Pezzner, Nio, Gel-Sol, William Mempa, and Blake Peterson. With visual entertainment by Killing Frenzy.
