Splendid Beats Music and Thoughts by Crispy / Leave Trace
Categories: Chill Room, Leave Trace, Monster Planet

Do you know about Monster Planet, a monthly evening of bad movies and improvised electronica? We have multitrack recorded every moment of every show for the past 2 years, in order to capture those moments of sonic synchronisity when the 5 unrehearsed musicians on stage all lock into the same vibe and something truly wonderful flows from the speakers. “Monster Planet — Year One” is a collection of some of our favorite moments from the first 12 shows.

I can’t help but think back to the heyday of The Orb and Future Sound of London when I listen to this stuff, so if that breed of amorphous, psychedelic ambiance is your thing, you should love what we’ve been cooking up at Monster Planet.

For your listening and downloading pleasure is my live Leave Trace set recorded at Chillography 301 on July 31, 2010 at Myrtle Edwards Park, on the lovely Seattle waterfront. This chillin’-in-the-sunshine inspired performance included the premier of several new tunes, including a melodic downtempo remix of “Monday Mimosas”, the spaced-out “Zero G”, and closes with an unofficial Leave Trace downtempo remix of “Canyon Hymn” by post rock gods, Grails.

Enjoy!

Tracklist ::
1. Splendor
2. Breach
3. Monday Mimosas (Chill Then Serve Mix)
4. Shellshock
5. Zero G
6. Grails – Canyon Hymn (Leave Trace Mix)

I have a new uplifting, mid-tempo, nostalgic-romp of a track, Quintessence, featured in Solipsistic Nation’s Twitter Mix 3. As of this moment, that is the only place where you’ll be able to hear it, so download the mix, or use the player below, to give it a listen.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Solipsistic Nation is consistently one of my favorite podcasts, so I highly suggest adding it to your subscription list and let the weekly episodes exploring “the best of all genres of electronic music” flow your way.

As I work towards completing my first album, I’m keeping most of my new music secret (or for live sets only) at the moment. However, I would like to share this new slice of deep, ethereal ambient techno with you all. Enjoy!

One of my tracks is up against 15 competitors in the “Trancin’ in the Streets/TechNo Prisoners” bracket of The Untz Challenge. Go to www.theuntz.com/theuntzchallenge and vote for Brontoburger (Au Jus Mix) – Leave Trace. It’s first in the list and clearly the best. ;)

You’ve got one week (Oct. 12-18) to vote me into the next round! I have a chance to win Ableton Live, a Novation Launchpad, and a one-on-one session with a top industry producer.

THANK YOU!

I want to try a bit of an experiment to see who’s reading my blog. I know you are out there based on my webstats, but I know little else.

So let’s try this…. I will create an exclusive mix for everyone that comments on this post by October 31, 2010. In your comment, at the very least, tell me where in the world you are reading from and the kind of mix you’d prefer (Crispy chill, Crispy dance, or Leave Trace chill). After the 31st, I’ll tally the votes and mix a special set in the most requested style, then send out a special download URL for that set. It’s important that you use a valid email address in the comment form so I can get a hold of you.

This mix will never be posted for general download, so get in on the action and comment away!

I’m looking forward to knowing who’s out there. :)
