Good news! Gel-Sol’s follow-up to “IZ” will be released on September 6. Here’s what he has to say about it:

You ready to Rock?!?!? Yeah, neither am I. I mean I am, but I got this new ambient album coming out. YOU READY TO CHILL?!?!?! Good.

So yeah, new album. It’s called K8EMA and was written for my second niece, Katelyn Mae. She’s a cutie. And what better way is there to mold and shape a young child’s mind than some extremely tripped-out psychedelic music from yer pal, Gel-Sol? Cuz I don’t know.

Check out the cover:

I made that shit! The music sounds like that too, which is of course BADASS. Ok, it might not be badass, but it’s pretty cool. I’m trying to promote here!

Here’s the tracklisting:

01. Abyssinia
02. K8EMA
03. Spirit Guide
04. Glade
05. Halo of Stars
06. Peacetime Fortress
07. The Mechanical Garden
08. Panta Rhei
09. Gel’s Hole
10. Energy Pools
11. Last

K8EMA drops on September 6th, 2010 through Keith Downey and the fine people of Psychonavigation Records in Dublin. They have a hell of roster, so you should check them out!

K8EMA is also available for pre-order through Darla Records:

and Ear/Rational (currently the month’s top seller!)

You can also check out the K8EMA album sampler via Soundcloud!

So yeah, buy K8EMA today and be the first on yer block to brag to all yer friends, family and neighbors that you have some ambient cd that nobody really listens to! K8EMA will also be available digitally through iTunes, Beatport, Bleep.com (Warp Records) and a few other online shops…

And I’ll try to blog more in the future. I totally forgot to post the new Kids For Tomorrow album (Nequa) that we finished up in the spring. It’s a crazy ambient album too!

Yer Pal,
Gel-Sol

As a huge fan of Theo Ellsworth, this animation immediately caught my interest. I absolutely love that surreal, hyper-detailed, doodle/stream-of-consciousness inspired illustration style, and Malcolm Sutherland has taken it to another level by bring it to life in this lovely animation. Enjoy!

When a hungry astronomer falls asleep while working on a problem, he discovers a solution not in outer space, but in the surreal food-chain of his subconscious mind. An animated film by Malcolm Sutherland, with sound by Leon Lo. Made in 2009. For more information or DVD purchases please visit animalcolm.com/theastronomersdream

Woo(b)! The loooooooooong awaited new album from cinematic ambient master, Woob, dropped today. :) This is very good news. I’ve been a huge Woob fan since I was first passed a copy of his Em:t Records, 1194 release, which remains one of my all-time favorites. Woob’s deep atmospheric textures mingle with live instrumentation and half heard voices from a movie never filmed, and Repurpose does little mess with this winning formula. Preview the album with the player below and click over to his Bandcamp page to pick up this (and most other) Woob releases.

<a href="http://woob.bandcamp.com/album/repurpose">Repurpose by woob</a>

From http://season9.wordpress.com/2010/04/29/woob-repurpose:

A new Woob compilation – Repurpose, will be available towards the end of May on download and a very limited run CD. The spiritual successor to Woob 1194 this album takes a couple of tracks from Woob 4495 and various Em:t compilations that Woob appeared on. throws in a couple of new lengthy excursions and blends it all together into a new listening experience.

Finally! Some fresh new music from northwest psychill hero, Phutureprimitive. Out today is the Luminous EP, containing three new(ish) tracks. I say “newish” because it seems like Rain has been dropping these tracks in his sets for a while, and it’s nice to finally have my own copies to play out. Style-wise, fans of his first album and subsequent compilation contributions will recognize that signature Phutureprimitive moody atmosphere and delicious bass lines. What’s new is the addition of lyrical vocals in the forefront of the mix as the new driving force for each track. These lyrics, by Alyssa Palmer and Rain, have been tastefully edited and are seamless additions to the already lush Phutureprimitive soundscape. Vocals of this caliber seem to be tricky to find in this kind of electronica, and Rain pulls it off. My gut tells me that some old fans will not be so into this new lyrical direction, but it will most certainly open up his music to an even wider audience. With Phutureprimitive now performing as a full band, this new direction should be not much of a surprise, and thankfully, in Rain’s capable hands the vocals and music continue to push the mature downtempo vibe that first caught the world’s ear six years ago.

I’m really looking forward to the Jónsi tour coming to Seattle in April (just got my tickets in the mail this weekend :) ). I’m not looking forward to seeing it at Showbox Sodo, but this man has a direct connection to the Creative Source, and I do my best not to miss those sorts of people when they come to my town.

Check out this teaser for “Go Quiet”, a film to included in the limited & digital special editions of his upcoming album “Go”.

“the concept behind ‘go quiet’ was simple: it’s new year’s day in reykjavík, and jónsi awakens to a trashed house in the wake of his party. he avoids cleaning up and instead procrastinates by playing songs that reflect the night before, the bittersweetness of new year, and the melancholy of a year gone by” – director dean deblois.
